Shots Fired Near Two Newark Schools: Police

Gunshots were fired near Newark schools on the afternoon of Monday, May 20, authorities said.

At 3:35 p.m., police responded to South 11th Street and South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. KIPP Rise Academy, a charter school for students from 5th grade to 8th grade, and West Side High School are located minutes from the shooting location. 

Police did not locate any gunshot victims, Fragé said. The investigation is ongoing, Fragé said.
